The AI & Agents settings page in admin area lets you configure which provider to use for all AI powered functionality, including AI support agent, automated responses, conversations summary, knowledge search and more.
All functionality across BeDesk will be identical, regardless of which provider and model is chosen. You can choose the provider you prefer based on pricing or personality.
Once you select a provider, choose a model — the specific version of their AI engine:
Larger models are generally smarter and more detailed.
Smaller models are faster and can help reduce costs.
Note: If you don't have a specific preference, you can leave provider and model as default.
AI agent can pull answers from your help articles, uploaded documents, specified websites and other sources. These settings control how that information is stored and understood.
This provider will be used to convert knowledge documents (articles, webpages, files, snippets etc) into "vectors" so they can be used by AI agent. Provider selection does not affect answer quality, so you can select the provider based on pricing.
You should also setup meilisearch search provider in admin -> settings > search page, if possible. It provides a faster search for knowledge, if there are many documents.
Controls how relevant content is extracted from documents:
Basic – Simple text extraction (default) — does not require extra setup, limited document format support.
Markitdown – Content extraction tool by Microsoft. Supports many different file formats and complex structures, likes tables. Requires installation on the server.
Enter the API keys for any providers you’ve selected. These allow BeDesk to connect directly to that provider’s AI services.
